The De Beauvoir Jazz Festival is more than just a celebration of music; it's a vibrant homage to the rich Black heritage that shaped jazz and the diverse communities of East London.
We envision a festival where inclusion isn't just a buzzword, but the very
heartbeat of our event.
We're committed to amplifying voices that have been historically underrepresented, ensuring our stages reflect the true diversity of our neighbourhood and the jazz world. We also want to introduce new audiences to jazz, demystifying the music and building greater inclusion. By actively engaging local talent and community groups, we're creating a platform where everyone can participate, contribute, and feel represented.
We'll start small. And build on the endeavour, learning along the wat. We may get a few things wrong the first time, but we hope to do our best to make sure we do good.
Our festival isn't just about preserving jazz's legacy; it's about evolving it through the unique lens of De Beauvoir's multicultural tapestry. We're fostering collaborations between established artists and emerging local talents, bridging generations and cultures through the universal language of music.
Beyond the music, we're dedicated to building educational initiatives over the years, that will connect youth with the roots of jazz, empowering them to carry this rich tradition forward. Through workshops, mentorship programs, and community outreach, we hope to nurture the next generation of artists and audience members alike.
We're founded by a pretty diverse team of people from very different professional backgrounds, cultural roots and with a healthy balance across gender in the team. The De Beauvoir Jazz Festival stands as a testament to the power of music in building bridges, challenging perceptions, and strengthening community bonds.
Join us in this harmonious journey of celebration, education, and unity, where every note played is a step towards a more inclusive and vibrant De Beauvoir.
